6. Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Opportunities from economic trend
1. The increase in the amount of Shale Gas that the United States can use for commercial purposes is definitely an opportunity for both consumers and distributors.
   a. Generally from the news
   b. The extreme decrease in the gas prices back up how this information led to an opportunity.
   c. Daily users of gasoline-necessary automobiles.
   d. Relatively easy in the perspectives of consumers. Hard in the perspectives of entrepreneurs since the entry barrier to this industry is extremely high.
   e. Since I am a daily driver who drive from home to work and school and vice versa, the difference in gas prices and its reasons were comparatively easily seen to me.
2. The increase in revenue for E-Sports
a. Since E-Sports is popular especially among millennial who spend a lot of time online, E-Sports' exposure in viral marketing is extremely high. I've also seen a post on Instagram that a nineteen-year-old won multi-million dollars after he won a Fortnite Tournament.
b. Compared to the past where E-Sports was considered as a minor category of leisure activity that wasn't approved by the adults, E-Sports has now developed into a multi-billion dollar industry. The fact that almost anyone with access to computers anywhere in the world can play E-Sports is a huge opportunity.
c. Almost anyone with access to computers anywhere in the world can play E-Sports is a huge opportunity.
d. Easy since anyone can make a product out of E-Sports (Streaming, Tournament Organization)
e. As a young college student from Korea, a country famous for its investment and infrastructure on E-Sports, this was an easy opportunity for me to seek out.
Opportunities from regulatory changes
3. The recent trend in regulatory change in allowing recreational usage of marijuana is definitely an opportunity for previous users who have been using marijuana for medical and "recreational" purposes, although the latter would have been illegal in all states except in Colorado.
a. I had actually heard about this from a friend on National Weed Day.
b. As would any major change in regulation, this regulatory change that now allows what has been literally considered a somewhat "popular" leisure activity of a great number of adult consumers as illegal would naturally cause a great amount of economic opportunity for lots of entrepreneurs
c. Previous users of marijuana products and possibly cigarette products
d. Relatively easy in the sense that accredited businesses are allowed to sell the products.
e. I guess viral news of major regulatory change like this makes opportunities that are easily seen to everyone.
4. California senate has made an unanimous agreement that college athletes in the NCAA have the rights to be paid for their media exposure and their naming rights in various fields.
a. As a sport management major aspiring to become an international agent one day, it was comparatively easy to see this news since
b. This is an obvious opportunity for all personnel related to sports management industry. Athletes, agents (who will now be able to associate their business with college athletes), teams, and maybe even NCAA officials since huge inputs of economic resources will be poured in.
c. All consumers and products (athletes and teams, games, etc.) in sports management industry.
d. Easier for existing products that weren't being paid due to regulations.
e. As mentioned, sport management majors like myself are more exposed to these kinds of news than other people in other majors would.
