21. Reading Reflection No. 2

For this assignment, I've read Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck.

1.    What was the general theme or argument of the book?

The theme of the book was that success or failure majorly depends on the type of mindset a person carries, and recommends readers how to develop a successful mindset.

2.    How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?

The connected greatly to what I am learning currently in ENT3003 because this class focuses greatly on identifying the right opportunities in certain situations and trying to make the right choices to take advantage of such opportunities to turn them into an entrepreneurship idea.

3.     If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
As mentioned in the book, I would make a self-evaluation exercise by students themselves so that they can objectively evaluate their current mindset and try to improve and develop from what they currently have. The exercise would involve studying past mistakes and achievements so that they can analyze what type of mindset led to past failures and past successes.

4.     What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
The biggest 'aha' moment was somewhat obvious but extremely significant. The mindset to success is of course important, but it's not as important as the mindset of welcoming and not fearing inevitable failure.

  1. Minseok,
I also read this book and learned how the mindset could change one's behavior and attitude. There are two types of mindset mentioned in the book. One is the people with a fixed mindset always think about the barriers in life. On the other hand, people with a growth mindset always find their way to overcome the obstacles in life. Overall, I think it is a great book to read.
